FDM — how it works
FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) melts plastic filament and extrudes it layer by layer. This makes it possible to produce models in virtually any shape, and complexity affects the price less than with milling and injection moulding — material usage and print time are what drive it. Unlike subtractive machining that cuts material away, FDM builds the part from the bottom up — only the material needed for the part itself (and support material) is consumed.
